|"No performance requirement
in SCUBA Diving is more poorly defined or less often achieved
MOST DIVERS are much more interested in collecting more C-Cards and more fancy dive gear, and even more T-Shirts, than they are in perfecting foundation skills. Like it or NOT, SCUBA Diving is an EGO Sport! "Bragging Rights" and "STATUS" , are more prized than actual diving ability.
Moving pictures are all that is needed in order to evaluate dive skills. Any use of hands for steering and propulsion is too much! Seeing a diver through the face plate of your mask is even better than watching video. Danglies can be seen in still photos. In fact, photos of danglies are a regular feature of dive magazine pictures. Both SCULLING (using the hands) and DANGLIES (hanging consoles, slates, octos and retractors etc.) are all hallmarks of a substandard diver.
|DON'T||SCULL WITH YOUR HANDS: sculling is
the Hallmark of Substandard Diving
WEAR GLOVES IN WARM WATER: just wear a sign saying your Buoyancy SUCKS!
EXPECT YOUR EQUIPMENT TO MAKE YOU INTO A BETTER DIVER!
HAVE DANGLIES: try to have a silhouette without any light holes in it while diving.
HAVE HOSE HALOS: shorten or re-route your hoses and reduce your girth!
|DON'T||IMITATE any instructor who does any of the ABOVE!|
|LOOSE TANK STRAPS DO OCCUR....but if you don't have any photos without loose or flapping tank straps....
YOU DON'T HAVE ANY STILL PHOTOS OF GOOD DIVERS!
HERE IS WHAT WE LOOK LIKE UNDERWATER
"IF" you think that there is a gap between the way we look and the way you look....
meet us in: MEXICO
"We promise to help you to close that gap!"
AS MOST BUOYANCY CONTROL SKILLS CLINICS
wear doubles. YOU WON'T
get a C-Card. YOU WILL
improve your buoyancy. YOU WILL
learn to frog kick.
WE WON'T DRESS IN CAVE GEAR TO SHOW YOU HOW....AND YOU WON'T NEED TO DRESS THAT WAY EITHER
|"GOOD BUOYANCY SKILLS"
begin with a symbolic amputation
of the HANDS....
A group photo with trip t-shirts. 8 of the 18 faces in this picture are STAFF. They include: our usual Cozumel Dive Operator and both of his boat captains, as well as the captain of a larger charter boat and his mate. The 2 instructors of BuoyancyQuest and the videographer bring the count up to where an 8 person team is serving a 10 person group. We can plan a Workshop for a group as small as 6 divers. Groups of 15 or more could threaten to degrade the amount of personal focus that we can provide. We have had success with groups as large as 14 so we decided to draw the line there rather than risk any loss of quality.
WE MEET YOU IN COZUMEL
WE SUPPLY THE MENTORING & COACHING
OUR MEXICAN COLLEAGUES PROVIDE THE INFRASTRUCTURE
| REMEMBER: Still Photos only record how good a
diver was for a fraction of a second.... VIDEO IS BETTER!
than just a tourist with a C-CARD in your pocket!
WE PROMISE: that you will learn "CAVE DIVER QUALITY" Buoyancy Control Skills...WITH US!
THAT'S RIGHT..... you'll learn buoyancy skills that most open water instructors don't have on their first day of Cave Training.
